Funding vital, emerging and ground-breaking work
Our Pioneer Programme gives donors the chance to gain a closer insight into how we are developing our services for patients and their families; and into the significant contribution we are making to improving palliative and end of life care for all.
Crucially, this programme also puts you in the driving seat. You can choose which aspect of our work you’d like to help fund, based on what you feel most passionate about, or most interested in.
The five key areas of our Pioneer Programme:
What difference will I make?
Your Pioneer pledge gives Dorothy House the means, security, and stability to keep pushing onwards and upwards.
It is an investment in the provision of palliative and end of life care in your community. There is no denying that the need for such care is growing at a rapid rate, and it is vital that we continue to push the boundaries to ensure we can continue to support people in the most meaningful, effective and sustainable ways.
How will you keep me informed of progress?
Three times a year we will send all Pioneers a report, which outlines key progress in all areas of our Pioneer Programme. We will also provide opportunities to visit the Hospice, meet key staff involved in some of this work, and attend various events.
If you choose to fund one specific area, at the end of your three-year commitment we will send you a full report outlining the impact of your support over this time. We always welcome the chance to show our supporters the difference they are making, and invite you to delve deeper and ask questions about our progress at any time.
What have Pioneers achieved previously?
Since its launch in 2020, over 50 people have become Pioneers. Our existing Pioneers were the ones who kicked off this whole Programme, and provided its foundational success. For that, and for so much more, we are so grateful.
In Autumn 2023, the format of our Pioneer Programme was altered slightly to offer greater choice and control to our supporters. This resulted in the revised Programme you see here today, which better reflects the breadth and depth of our pioneering work.
Find out what areas their support has focused on below.
Research
Our Research Pioneers have enabled visionary research to be conducted, both independently, and in partnership with numerous organisations, including RICE, University of Bath and the University of the West of England. The Pioneers’ generosity helped our Research Team become so established that it is now taking a leading role in encouraging collaboration and improved investigations across multiple hospices in the south west and nationwide.
Community nursing
Our CPCT (Community Palliative Nurse Team) Pioneers are helping to fund the expansion of our community nursing provision. Their support is enabling us to increase our resource and improving the self-management capabilities of the teams, to provide localised, expert care for patients at home.
Education
Our Education Pioneers are currently supporting the ongoing delivery of our Tulip Standard Care Certificate for a wide range of our carers, junior nursing staff, and other healthcare providers across our community. Such vital training instils knowledge and confidence and ensures all are delivering evidence-based best practice.
