Thank you!
Over the last financial year, we have received over an incredible £137,000 from our amazing monthly givers. Every penny these compassionate monthly donors give to Dorothy House goes towards providing care and comfort to those who are facing a hugely challenging time in their lives. We want to express a sincere and heartfelt thank you to our monthly givers.
Donations such as these have enabled us to continue expanding our community care offering. Localisation is at the heart of how we deliver our care here at Dorothy House and we are focussed on bringing outstanding palliative and end of life care closer to people’s homes, when they really need it.
In 2022, we reorganised and expanded our community nursing service into local, neighbourhood Community Palliative Care Teams. Over the last 12 months we have launched monthly half-day clinics for anyone with a life limiting illness, run by Dorothy House Nurse Specialists in GP surgeries and community hospitals. We now have five clinics up and running (with plans to open a sixth in May, and more in the coming months) attended by 69 patients.
What the Community Palliative Care Clinics offer
1) Enable more patients to access the specialist palliative care advice and support they need, by improving the efficiency of our early care
2) Give patients easier access to our support, directly alongside the services they use regularly
3) Help more patients access support at an earlier point in their diagnosis
4) Give easy access to patients with a wide range of illnesses
5) Make referrals to Dorothy House easier thanks to a more joined-up approach between our community nursing teams and local health and social care providers
6) Reduce unnecessary hospital admissions
The latest from our Community Palliative Care Nurse Specialists:
“The clinics are going from strength to strength. We are seeing more patients, earlier in their diagnosis which means we are able to offer support, advice and signpost to other Dorothy House or community services at the right time.”
Amy Mee, Community Staff Nurse at Dorothy House.“Some patients feel more comfortable meeting outside of their homes, and don’t have access to transport to meet in Winsley. Holding a regular clinic in a local setting that the individual already knows provides safety for them. This then allows us to give them information regarding what Dorothy House has to offer. We can discuss symptoms and provide emotional support, which is something we feel really passionate about here at Dorothy House.”
Hollie Templeton, Community Staff Nurse at Dorothy House.
