Matthew Parfitt was delighted to hear the news recently that he was the lucky winner of £2,000 in the Local Hospice Lottery weekly prize draw.

It’s Matt’s connection with Dorothy House that inspired him and his wife, Amy to play the Local Hospice Lottery, after we supported not only his family, but also an employee of his. He told us:

“Dorothy House has been fantastic for us through my mother’s illness in 2020, with support at home for me, as well as more recently with an employee we were supporting with his twin boys in December last year.”

Matt came into the Hospice along with Amy and their six-month-old son, Cooper, where they were presented with the winner’s cheque. In an incredibly generous gesture, however, they have decided to donate their winnings to Dorothy House, so that other families can receive the same support.

“We are so grateful to Matt and his family for playing the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Dorothy House, and we’re also delighted to have received such a kind and generous donation. We really couldn’t do the work that we do without the support of our amazing community.” Clare Way, Individual Giving Fundraiser

How the Local Hospice Lottery supports Dorothy House

The Local Hospice Lottery provides financial support for adults and childrens’ hospices across Great Britain. It provides us with regular income that helps us provide outstanding palliative and end of life care across our 800sq miles. To date, players like Matt have helped to raise over £3 million for patient care.

Dorothy House is one of many hospices that is supported by Local Hospice Lottery. This year, for every £1 entry, we receive an average of 68p. Over the next five years, we can expect to receive at least £2.5 million from the lottery. an amount that will make a huge difference to the patients and families we support.
