Dorothy House highlights the importance of charity gifts in wills in national hospice campaign
Dorothy House is proud to be one of over 143 hospices taking part in the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign, a national initiative facilitated by Hospice UK.
This is Hospice Care campaign
The campaign, launching on 17 February, features a powerful TV advert based on real life hospice stories. The goal is to encourage people to consider leaving charity gifts in their wills to support their local hospice, ensuring that these essential services can continue to provide their compassionate and specialist care for future generations.
The impact of charity gifts in wills
At Dorothy House, gifts in wills are already playing a pivotal role in ensuring we can continue to provide hospice care for our residents. One in five of our patients is already cared for with thanks to these generous gifts. The government provides approximately 22% of our funding – the rest comes from our wonderful community. However, as future needs grow, so too must the support we receive.
“The work that Dorothy House does and the service it provides I think is superb and I wanted to help support that, and it seemed quite obvious to me to make a legacy in my will and leave some money to Dorothy House to help them continue with their work.” Ainslie, Dorothy House Volunteer.
Increase in demand for hospice services
With the number of annual deaths in the UK expected to rise by 130,000 by 2040, it is important that we address how to meet this huge surge in future demand. We can currently only support half of the people that need us. Dorothy House encourages our local community who may one day need our services to consider the profound impact that a gift in their will can have.
