At Dorothy House we know just how important our volunteers are to our success. They are at the heart of everything we do. In fact, over 40 years ago the Hospice was founded by a small group of volunteers. Today, more than 1,200 people give their time so we can continue to offer free care to people with life-limiting illnesses, and their families.
People volunteer with us for many different reasons, including: to make friends, to give back to the community or for work experience. For those looking for employment at Dorothy House through volunteering, we offer many opportunities. It can be great for those who are looking to start a retail career or get back into employment after a career break.
Two of our valued volunteers recently became employees in our Retail shops.
Rebecca
On a hot day in July 2022 Rebecca visited a Dorothy House coffee morning at Chippenham Furniture shop. After a chat involving chocolate cake, Rebecca started volunteering at the Corsham Warehouse. She quickly found her feet, packing Christmas orders for both customers and the Retail shops.
Rebecca enjoyed volunteering so much that she applied for a Retail Mobile Manager position and was successful. We are looking forward to her growing her career with us at Dorothy House.
Tony
Tony started volunteering at the Warminster Shop in November 2021. He proved to be reliable, hardworking and a great member of the team. “The shop is in good hands when Tony is in” – Gavin, Shop Manager.
When the opportunity arose for a Sunday Deputy, he applied and was successful. We are so pleased to have Tony as a valued member of staff who found employment at Dorothy House through volunteering.
