Dorothy House Coffee Mornings raise an incredible total!

Two fabulous Dorothy House Coffee Mornings have raised an amazing joint total of £2,063.80!

Karen and Helen’s Coffee Morning fundraiser

2024 marks the second year Karen and Helen have chosen to support Dorothy House. Both have had cancer themselves, and have had relatives and friends cared for by the Hospice. The Coffee Morning took place at the end of September in Frome, with about 70 wonderful people supporting the event between 10am – 4pm, raising £1,442.

Karen and Helen’s top tips for holding their Coffee Morning fundraiser

We chatted to Karen and Helen about their Coffee Morning event to find their top fundraising tips:

• Before holding the event, get in touch with Dorothy House so you can be supported with resources such as banners, flags and donation boxes.
• The webpage Coffee Morning – Dorothy House is a good place to start, as you then have access to an event pack with invites, posters, cake labels and the all-important bunting!

“We were able to advertise our Coffee Morning at my place of work as well as on Facebook. We had a banner outside the house and used the driveway, which encouraged passers-by to attend as well.” – Helen.

“Many of the people who attended on the day have cancer, or know someone with cancer or a life limiting illness and really wanted to show their support for Dorothy House.” – Karen

Helen and Karen both agreed that their showstopper cake would be a coconut cherry Italian meringue cake with a soft cream filling! It’s a cake made by their friend whose husband is currently receiving treatment.

Julia’s Coffee Morning

In August of t2024, Julia held a very successful Coffee Morning fundraiser for Dorothy House, with a fantastic total of £621.80. Julia welcomed about 45 friends and family to her home in Bath between 10am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm, and even went on to hold a BBQ in the evening too!

Julia works in the Supporter Care Team at Dorothy House.  She’s been a valued member of the team for almost 13 years, helping our supporters with their fundraising journey.

Julia’s top secret baking tip

“I’ve always known about Dorothy House and remember when it first opened 48 years ago. I’ve known many people who have needed our services over the years and as my local charity it’s one I intend to continue to support. My very top secret baking tip is to always add a drop of tepid boiled water to a sponge mixture to make it lighter.”
