Broad St proud to be part of The Bath Festival 2022

The world-renowned festival, which celebrates music and books, will run Friday 13 May to Saturday 21 May 2022.

In a packed festival programme, going into more venues than ever before, many of the events involve the careful pairing of authors and musicians to create experiences that will be unique to Bath. Following the lockdowns of the pandemic, Bath Festival has emerged with a strong focus on the importance of live arts events and performance.

The Bath Festival opens with the traditional Party in the City on Friday 13 May, offering dozens of free live music events in city venues. This evening of free music attracts thousands of visitors who enjoy everything from choirs singing in churches, to samba on the streets, punk rock in pubs and the stars of the local music scene playing on stages in local parks.

Our Broad Street shop will be a venue for a series of three free book talks featuring local topics and local authors during May. The shop will be open for browsing too and purchases can be made on the night.

 

Bath to Fleet Street

Tuesday 17 May, 6.30-7.30pm

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Geoff Ellis talk about his career as a press photographer, showcased in his book, Bath to Fleet Street, with images from his personal archive.  A nostalgic look at life through Geoff’s lens with pictures and anecdotes from his time as a young press photographer in Bath in the 1950s, troubled times in Northern Ireland through to Fleet Street power struggles.

 

Before We Go 

Wednesday 18 May, 6.30-7.30pm

Bath Arts Workshop;counterculture in the 1970s is a candid and hilarious account of how a rowdy, inventive counterculture exploded upon our 18th century city.  In the words of co-author Jennie Potter-Barrie: ‘It was outrageous to many, hilarious, irreverent, hard work and brilliant fun. Now we look back and ask if we changed anything other than ourselves.’ Come meet the authors, Victoria Forbes Adam and Phil Shepherd and join the conversation!

 

History of Cleveland Pools

Thursday 19 May, 6.30-7.30pm

Bath’s hidden jewel, built in the Georgian period, is a unique open air bathing facility on the river in the city. Join research historian for the Pools, Dr Linda Watts (Swimming Through History) as she explores the Pools’ 200 years of remarkable history and celebrates the fact that these wonderful heritage buildings are finally being restored for the community of Bath and beyond to enjoy.
