Runners raise over £50k for Dorothy House at the Bath Half
The 2025 Bath Half Marathon took place on Sunday 16 March and it was an incredibly inspiring day, with 130 amazing runners taking on the gruelling 13.1 miles to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
Running the Bath Half Marathon for Dorothy House
We were thrilled to welcome our runners into the Dorothy House marquee in the Runners’ Village before and after the race.
The runners were greeted by our fabulous volunteers with hot drinks, sweets and a lot of cake. One of our runners said:
Could you please pass on my thanks to the incredible people that helped at your tent at the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday! They were all wonderful and made the whole experience so much more special. Thank you all very, very, much.
We couldn’t agree more!
Special thanks go to Sandy and her team for being a cheering squad along the route. Sandy said:
It really was an amazing day with a fantastic atmosphere and we loved every minute of shouting, waving our flags and ringing a very loud bell every time a Dorothy House runner went by. This was really challenging as we were standing where we had runners coming in both directions, so my family were shouting – ‘here’s another’ and ringing the bell!
Once the runners completed the the half marathon, Jo Carp from Physio Jo and Cathy from CGR Sports Therapy kindly volunteered to give the runners some much-needed massages. The runners were over the moon to receive this treatment and we couldn’t be more grateful to them for offering us their time.
One of our amazing runners was Toby, who raised £1,510 for Dorothy House. Toby’s wife Helen, mother to Henry and Leo, died of breast cancer on 2 July after a two year battle, aged 42 years. She worked as a Public Health Consultant and her first day in the job was the first day of the national Covid pandemic lockdown. She worked tirelessly to create and manage her council’s Covid and vaccination response and worked right up to the end of her life.
Toby told us more about Helen’s experience with Dorothy House:
She died on the Dorothy House Inpatient Unit, surrounded by her family and never raged against the dying of her light, but strove forward, determined to enjoy every last moment she could. Dorothy House made her last few weeks special for her, her friends and family. Without them, her last days would have been unbearable. We miss her terribly but are privileged to have known her. She was a fabulous wife and wonderful mum. We are eternally grateful for all the support.
The grand total
Our runners have currently raised an incredible £56,716 for Dorothy House, with more money still coming in. We couldn’t be more grateful to all those who participated on our behalf.
