Dorothy House Wingwalkers raise over £9,000!

The grand total is in!

A huge congratulations to all five Dorothy House Wingwalkers: Freda, Andy, Debbie, Dine and Gina. Together they have raised an incredible £9838.45 for the Hospice!

This amazing contribution will help us to continue to deliver outstanding end of life care across our community. This incredible sum could provide an invaluable 9 days of care for one patient in our Inpatient Unit.

 

 

…and what a day is was!

On arrival at RFC Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester, our Wingwakers and their supporters were greeted by a perfectly still, sunny morning.

Before take off, the brilliant Aerosuperbatics team were on hand to give a full safety briefing to prepare the Wingwalkers for their ascent.

Each flight lasted ten minutes. During which time, Dave, our pilot for the day, ensured the Wingwalkers could take in the incredible views surrounding the airfield. It was wonderful to see our Wingwalkers waving enthusiastically to their supporters below.

After completing the challenge, Freda, Andy, Debbie, Dine and Gina were all presented with certificates to mark the occasion and congratulate them on their amazing efforts!

Why take on a Dorothy House Wingwalk Challenge?

By taking to the skies for Dorothy House, our Wingwalkers have helped raise vital funds for patients and families across Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire. A phenomenal achievement!

Freda’s story

Freda’s feet had just about touched the ground again by the following week after her adrenalin high lasted the whole weekend!

 “Yes I did it. It was terrific (not terrifying as some people thought).  Safely strapped in it didn’t take long before I was grinning and laughing. It was such a ludicrous thing to be doing.  Spectacular views over the countryside and I was thinking of all the people who would have loved to see this but could no longer share it with me.  My Mum, brother, his wife and several friends.”

Not satisfied with reaching her first fundraising target, Freda went on to smash her second target by raising a total of £2,076.

From spotting a poster in her local supermarket to reaching out to Dorothy House, Freda shared with us her story for taking on this incredible challenge.
